Out of the Forest with Objective Evaluation Methods

Our consulting mandates often come into play when things are not going as expected. When the status quo no longer works, or when digitalization projects have not brought the desired success. That's why an open, objective assessment and honest evaluation of the situation is the first and most important step towards new opportunities. Our standardized maturity model enables a fair assessment and creates a clear picture of the situation.

"I don't want to talk to them about our problems!"

We have often heard this phrase when we are talking to a business manager during project initiation or when we are preparing an analysis and recommendation for action.

This is understandable. New businesses, customers, markets, opportunities, growth, expansion, diversification, these are the topics that need to be discussed. No question about it: Ambitious goals and visions set the direction and provide important guideposts to know where to go. At the same time, there is a great deal of surprise as to why previous initiatives and projects have not progressed or even failed.

It is therefore necessary to take a closer look at the reasons for this in order to be able to derive measures and corrections for the future. But how do you take stock objectively - without falling prey to false suspicions, preconceived notions, prejudices, and snap judgments?

A transparent maturity model enables an objective assessment of the situation

Only with a truly objective assessment can prejudices be dispelled, snap judgments avoided, and the course set for the development of truly targeted and effective options and measures. A transparent maturity model can help.

To find out, we rely on in-depth analysis in various subject areas. While some are struggling with the product development process, others are fighting for better e-commerce. Or a client may want to expand into new areas of business, but is reaching its performance limits. Every business is different, and every organization, whether retail, service or industrial, has unique focus areas.

We evaluate the results of the analysis according to a transparent maturity model - on a clear scale of 1-5. And we compare that maturity with current best practices, such as those of your competitors. This allows us to see how "digital" the market really is.

Clear criteria allow us to make the assessment objective and transparent. For example, the product data quality situation can be measured by whether there is continuous data monitoring based on KPIs or whether someone is responsible for master data governance. The quality of the tool landscape can be determined by the standardization of interfaces, user satisfaction, and a functioning enterprise application management. And whether an organization is actually functioning can be seen in well-rehearsed routines and best practices, while constant ad hoc activities and uncoordinated isolated actions tend to indicate a dysfunctional organization.

This gives our clients an objective picture of the situation. The results are often painful, but they are eye-opening, so that the right issues can be addressed and investments and improvements can be made in the right places. And we can find out where they are ahead, where they are behind, and where there is a real need for action.
